Career Description 

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer you will operate sophisticated ultrasound imaging equipment under the direction of a physician. Ultrasound creates images of the patient’s anatomy to assist doctors in diagnosing medical problems. You must have patient care skills in order to explain the procedure to patients, position them correctly, and perform the sonographic examination. In addition, you must be knowledgeable about disease processes, and the care and maintenance of ultrasound equipment.

Employment can be in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and imaging centers.

With the development of new ultrasound procedures, Diagnostic Medical Sonographer positions are expected to increase 20% or more in the next 10 years. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers earn an hourly range of $19.69 to $37.27 for an annual salary range of $40,955 to $77,521.

GateWay's Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Commission on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS).
