When do the next GateWay Community College Clinical Research Coordinator Program classes begin?
The first class is scheduled to begin on January 20, 2004 for any students wishing to enter the program during the Spring 2004 semester. Information on all classes may be found in this packet of information.
Do the classes need to be taken consecutively?
Most students must take the introduction class prior to taking any of the other classes, but you can choose to take the other three classes in the order most convenient for you. Students with extensive previous research experience may elect to attempt to receive credit for “Introduction to Clinical Research” by passing an examination at the GateWay College Assessment Center. There is a fee for this exam, this exam may only be taken one time. A passing score of 80% must be achieved to receive course credit. Students considering this option must contact Cris Wells, Program Coordinator, at 602-286-8488, to discuss their experience and request approval.
Is there a formal process to apply for the program?
Complete the Application for Admission forms in this packet and forward to Cris Wells, Coordinator of Clinical Research.
If you meet one of the prerequisite options you may contact the GateWay Community College Admissions and Records Office at 602-286-8100 to provide registration information and arrange tuition payment. If you do not meet one of the options you need to call to request approval from the Program Coordinator before attempting to register for the class.
Is there professional certification for students completing the certificate program?
Yes, there are two organizations offering professional research certifications. GateWay Community College prepares eligible students to sit for either the Society of Clinical Research Associates’ (SoCRA) or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) certification exam.
Do I need to be certified to be a clinical research professional?
No, but certification enhances your credibility and salary expectation.
How long would it take to complete the four courses in the program?
It is planned that a student will be able to complete all courses within a twelve month time period if they wish to do so. Additional courses will be scheduled each semester so students completing the program at any speed will have the ability to access all the classes.
Where may I purchase the necessary books?
A set of (6) soft cover textbooks will be used for all the courses and must be purchased as a set at the beginning of CRC120. For fall 2003 the book set fee should be paid at time of registration and the books will be available on the first night of class from the instructor. For spring 2004, the six-book set will be available for purchase through the GWCC bookstore.
A FDA/GCP and ICH guideline handbook is also strongly recommended and can be purchased at the GWCC bookstore.
In addition, the instructors have compiled a handout binder of readings and reference information for each of the four courses that will be available at a cost of $10.00 per binder, payable by cash or check on the first night of each of the four courses.
Is there credit available for prior work experience?
This program consists of four courses and there is no provision for credit for prior work experience at this time.
Is Financial Aid available?
Contact the Financial Aid Office at 602-286-8110 to inquire. Tell them you will be participating in a new 16 credit Certificate Program.
Where will the classes be located?
Classes will be held in the Center for Health Careers Building at GateWay Community College at 108 North 40th St., Phoenix, Arizona. All classes meet once each week, for four hours, from 5pm to 9pm, over a 16-week time period.
